  2. What is your operating area and what are the main lanes? (Back)
    Currently we run an open board in the United States. Long Haul runs are heavy to the Carolinas and primarily East of the Mississippi River. Our short haul runs are generally heavy in any of the Great Lake States. Local/Canadian and dedicated lanes are posted internally when possible and drivers are awarded the lanes based on qualifications and seniority.

  3. What is the average length of haul? (Back)
    Long haul: a driver can achieve an average of 2500 to 3300 miles per week. The average length of haul, one way is 500 to 800 miles.

    Short haul: a driver can achieve an average of 2000 to 2500 miles per week. The average length of haul, one way is 150 to 500 miles.

  5. When can I expect to get home? (Back)
    Long haul: most drivers stay out for a consecutive five-day period and then home for two. Some drivers on longer destinations are out longer but normally by choice.
    Short haul: most drivers are home at least a couple of times per week however some choose to stay out.

  6. What type of freight does L.E. Walker Transport Ltd. handle? (Back)
    In our Dry van division most of what we carry is “driver no touch”. Less that one percent of freight hauled is Hazardous Freight.

  7. Does L.E. Walker Transport Ltd. have a passenger policy? (Back)
    Yes, passengers are permitted to ride along with our drivers. Driver must complete 90-day probation period to qualify All passengers must be over 10 years of age and have proof of out of province coverage.

  8. Does L.E. Walker Transport Ltd. have a benefit program available? (Back)
    We offer Travel-Ease health insurance coverage for initial 90 days from hire date. After 90 days probation, full time employees are offered a generous Group Health Plan, which includes Employee and Dependant Life Insurance, Semi-private coverage, Paramedical expenses, Vision Care and dental coverage A Group Pension Plan is offered after 1 full year of continuous employment to the drivers. He/she may contribute up to three percent of regular monthly earnings to an RRSP, which will be matched by the company into a DPSP. Money contributed by the company becomes vested after two years in the plan. We also have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

    For Owner Operators there is an optional comprehensive benefit program is available to all Owner-Operators and coverage begins immediately upon start date. The cost of this program is approximately $314.73 per month for single coverage and $438.23 per month for family coverage. If benefits are waived the Owner Operator must produce coverage of WSIB.

  9. Does L.E. Walker Transport Ltd. hire newly licensed drivers? (Back)
    We have launched a six-week intensive training program this past year, which allows us to hire newly licensed drivers. The new driver will be paired up with a driver trainer who will show the trainee the ropes of the transportation industry.

  10. Who Pays for plates, licensing, fuel etc. and how? (Back)
    L.E. Walker Transport Ltd. pays for plates and insurance. The owner operator is responsible for the insurance deductible. The Owner Operator can purchase a buy down package thru our benefit program. Owner operator is also responsible for IRP tax and IFTA fuel tax rebate/payment. (We will administer but O/O is responsible to pay) We offer a significant fuel surcharge that fluctuates with the national average
